About LittleSpec
The air is full of stories. We built a way to hear them.
Every day you walk through thousands of radio signals — aircraft calling out their positions, key fobs chirping, weather stations reporting in, boats announcing themselves. Almost nobody gets to see any of it. LittleSpec is our attempt to fix that.

Why this thing exists.
Radio has always had a barrier to entry. The hardware is either a cheap dongle that needs a laptop and a weekend of forum-reading, or a serious receiver with a manual thicker than the device. Either way, you end up staring at a waterfall plot wondering what any of it means.
We wanted the opposite. Something you can pocket, switch on, and immediately learn from — a device that doesn’t just show you a spike at 433.92 MHz, but tells you it was probably a car key, why it looks the way it does, and what it says about the world around you.
So LittleSpec pairs a wideband software-defined radio with the bit that was always missing: smart identification that names every signal, decoding that turns aircraft, boats and drones into live positions on a map, and an app that puts it all in your hand. RF expertise not required.
Three things we won’t compromise on.
Receive-only, by design
LittleSpec listens. It is physically incapable of transmitting on the frequencies it monitors, so it can never interfere with anything — and there’s nothing to misuse.
Smart identification and decoding
Every signal gets a name and a confidence level, and the structured ones are decoded outright — aircraft, boats, drones, device bursts. The raw spectrum is always there for when you want it.
Works on its own
Physical controls and onboard processing mean the device is useful without a phone in hand. The app makes it brilliant; it doesn’t make it dependent.
Where we are.
LittleSpec is in active development. Here’s the honest state of play — we’ll keep this page updated as each stage lands.
Enclosure, main board and antenna layout designed. Working prototypes receiving across the full range.
Signal identification, the decoders and the iPhone app are being built and tested in the field.
A small run in the hands of early testers to shake out the hardware and refine the app before the first batch.
Pre-orders are fulfilled in order-date order. Android app follows after launch.
Who’s behind it
Made by Carefully Coded.
LittleSpec is designed and built in the United Kingdom by Carefully Coded, a small studio that makes hardware and software we’d want to own ourselves. We make awesome things — come and see what else we’re up to.
“The best tools don’t just show you data. They teach you something every time you pick them up.”
